Summary of Background and Legal Experience


Donald O’Dell became a member of the Florida Bar in March, 1978. Following that, Don spent 37 1/2 years as a defense attorney handling bad faith and coverage issues for insurers as well as professional liability and errors & omissions cases. During his career, Don handled in excess of 150 jury trials and 100 appeals in both state and federal courts and was rated AV Preeminent for over 20 years by Martindale Hubbell. In 1999, Don received his certification from the Florida Supreme Court as a circuit civil mediator. He began mediating cases at that time while still maintaining a full-time law practice. On September 30, 2015, Don retired from trial law practice of to begin participating full-time as a mediator. Prior to becoming an attorney, Don was raised in the rural area of the state of Kansas. In 1965, Don enlisted in the Marine Corps and served 2 tours in Vietnam. Don’s personal experiences together with his legal background have given him the ability to understand both people and legal issues thereby enabling him to easily work with lawyers and their clients during mediations.

Don has been recognized as a member of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals.
